verdict at the close

Both indices closed higher, but their peaks came at different hours — KOSPI in the morning, KOSDAQ in the afternoon

On Thursday, 27 August 2026, KOSPI closed provisionally at 6,879.87, up +1.05% on the day, and KOSDAQ at 834.39, up +0.91%.The direction was the same but the shape of the day was not — among the most-traded names, the KOSPI side opened close to its high while the KOSDAQ side opened far below it.SK hynix opened at +5.21% against a high of +5.92%, barely any distance at all, while Haechitech opened at +1.28% and ran to a high of +29.96%.Both closing levels are still provisional — the sources disagree and figures may be under correction immediately after the close.

Key points
01KOSPI large caps were highest at the open — SK hynix opened +5.21% against a high of +5.92%, Samsung Electronics +3.25% against +3.63%, Samsung Electro-Mechanics +4.59% against +5.11%, and SK Square +4.25% against +5.01%. In all four the open and the high sit almost on top of each other.
02KOSDAQ climbed during the session instead — Haechitech opened +1.28% and reached a high of +29.96%, Y-Chips opened +1.55% and reached +20.79%, Simmtech opened +8.07% and reached +14.42%. The distance between open and high is wide.
03In the same afternoon one market made lows and the other made highs — on KOSPI, Hyundai Motor set a low of -3.19% at 14:16 and Hyundai Mobis a low of -3.56% at 14:17. Around the same time on KOSDAQ, Y-Chips set a high of +20.79% at 14:14 and Ecopro a high of +6.09% at 14:41.
04Retail investors were heavy sellers — on KOSPI, retail sold a net -KRW 1,913.8bn while foreign investors bought +KRW 137.0bn, institutions +KRW 181.6bn and investment firms +KRW 285.1bn; pension funds were -KRW 142.9bn. All were collected before 19:00 today and are confirmed in the evening. KOSDAQ investor flows were not received today — exchange data access is restricted and the fallback route covers KOSPI only.
05All five of today’s calls landed inside their bands — KOSPI +1.05%, KOSDAQ +0.91%, SK hynix +2.49%, Samsung Electronics +1.72% and Doosan Enerbility +0.12%. All five stated a band rather than a direction, so they are scored only on whether the outcome fell inside it.
