Yesterday the KOSPI index rose while its advance-decline ratio was 0.59, with more names falling than rising; the three sessions before that read 2.02, 2.86 and 2.13, all on the advancing side. A day that staked a direction opened the other way — one of five calls has the direction right

As of 09:46, KOSPI stood at -0.44% and KOSDAQ at -0.54%. The pre-open edition staked both indices to the upside, and so far the market has gone the other way.KOSPI opened at 6,846.54, fell to a low of 6,805.01 and has come back to around 6,881.62. KOSDAQ opened at 835.23, set a low of 829.79 and sits near 833.16.These are intraday figures, not settled, and the two sources differ slightly.

Key points
01Inside the band and right on direction are not the same thing — as of 09:46 all five of today’s calls sit inside their bands. But only one has the direction right: Samsung Electro-Mechanics. KOSPI, KOSDAQ, SK hynix and Samsung Electronics were all staked to the upside and are currently lower.
02The most heavily staked call is on the wrong side — KOSPI was placed at an advance probability of 77% (based on 207 similar cases) and stands at -0.44%. A probability of 77% means the outcome went the other way two or three times in ten, and this morning is on that side.
03Yesterday the index and market breadth pointed opposite ways — with exchange data restored after three sessions, yesterday’s KOSPI shows 317 advancing issues against 539 declining, an advance-decline ratio of 0.59. The index rose while more names fell than rose.
04Semiconductors are heavy this morning — Samsung Electronics opened -1.32% and fell to -2.82%; SK hynix opened -1.5% and fell to -2.48%. Against that, Samsung Electro-Mechanics reached a high of +3.9%, NAVER +5.77% and Hyosung Heavy Industries +6.04%.

So this edition says nothing about who was buying or selling.
