Eight of the ten most-traded names rose — but today’s close has not arrived

Eight of the ten largest KOSPI names by turnover closed higher today. SK hynix rose +1.27%, Samsung Electronics +1.17%, Samsung Electro-Mechanics +2.6% and LG Innotek +5.07%, while Kumho Electric gained +16.85%.On KOSDAQ, Onconic Therapeutics rose +22.07%, Remedi +14.2%, JW Shinyak +9.52% and Simmtech +5.29%.Today’s index close, however, had not arrived in the data by the time of this edition. It will be recorded in the next edition as it comes in — this edition describes the day through individual names and investor flows only.

Key points
01Today’s index close is not yet available — the data did not carry today’s closing level by the time of this edition. A figure from another day is not presented as today’s; it will be recorded in the next edition as it arrives.
02Eight of the ten most-traded names rose — on KOSPI the gainers were Kumho Electric +16.85%, LG Innotek +5.07%, Samsung Electro-Mechanics +2.6%, SK hynix +1.27%, Samsung SDI +1.05%, KB Financial Group +0.99% and SK Square +0.88%. The two decliners were LG Display -1.87% and Samsung Electronics (Pref.) -0.16%.
03Investor flows point the other way — on KOSPI, institutions sold a net -KRW 795.3bn, foreign investors -KRW 633.2bn, investment firms -KRW 274.0bn, retail -KRW 148.8bn and pension funds -KRW 35.6bn, leaving all five groups net sellers. These are from the 15:45 compilation and are compiled again in the evening — both the size and the order can change.
04KOSDAQ flows arrived for the first time in a while — retail bought a net +KRW 246.1bn, while institutions sold -KRW 200.2bn, investment firms -KRW 168.8bn, foreign investors -KRW 48.3bn and pension funds -KRW 29.4bn. This line went unreceived throughout last week.
05Two sessions last week had index and breadth pointing opposite ways — on August 27 the index rose while the advance-decline ratio was 0.59 (317 advancing against 539 declining), and on August 28 the index fell while the ratio was 2.69 (640 against 238). The advance-decline ratio is not a percentage change; it is how many times more names rose than fell.
